Soft Girl Summer

I'm sure I'm not the only one who longs for ease. . .
Recently, the world has been, to put it mildly, quite stressful and frightening.
I long for simpler times. There are so many things that have been working to lower stress
and bring joy this summer.
Working gently on being a softer girl and focusing more on smaller things. Here are a few of my favorite 'soft girl summer' things
Old Fashioned Hobbies
I'm currently extremely fixated on gardening. . . I think deep down I'm getting pretty stereotypically middle aged throwing in Blanche Du Bois and Auntie Mame fabulousness. I have been embroidering, installing a new bird bath, buying a Caftan, Shaking up cocktails etc.

I tend my roses everyday after my evening walk with my Beagle Sherlock and often my husband Syd. My Dog sits on his post on our back patio and suns himself while I water the flowers sometimes wanting a drink from the hose. Other times he just waits for me to chase him around and play tug or fetch for a bit before a post walkies nap.

The routine of gentle walking, outdoor time, and chatting with neighbors etc. has become very soothing, Sometimes it's hot. Sometimes it's close to raining (my favorite) and Sherlock and I come and sit on the front porch in our gliding chairs and look at the mountains and all passersby. Hummingbirds, dogs, people, bees etc. Being a stereotypical hound dog I love seeing how much he loves his front porch time.
The App that's Changed the Game
The App that is changing my life Wellatory is incredible. It's basically a stress tracking app.
If you have a smart watch, it tracks with it and let's you know with heart rate data and variability etc. How you are doing stress wise, energy wise, focus, etc.
As a perfectionist with ADHD I feel like I'm never doing enough and feel overwhelmed with all that needs to get done. This app has helped me to use data to see when I need to rest despite it all and after weeks of seeing my stress levels in the high 80% up to 99% regularly I started taking my health seriously when it comes to stress.
Even though as women we are expected to 'do it all' I get to decide when and how 'It all' gets done. I'm happy to report my numbers are better now less than two months later, and I'm in a better mood, am sleeping deeper, and have a little more energy.
My husband caved and got it too even though he has other health apps. We both love this one. It was cool and he couldn't stand missing out. He's a heart patient too so it doesn't hurt to measure heart and stress rates for him either!

Entertainment
TV: I'm rewatching 'The Summer I turned Pretty which is such a fun, coastal awkward and triumphant coming of age story that has a ton of Heart and coastal vibes
Desperate Housewives. . . I have never seen the whole thing until now, but I enjoy seeing the cozy relationships between neighbors mixed of course with scandal and murder etc. A fun watch that keeps you interested without too much stress.
Currently reading Practical Magic. Although I do like what the movie adaptation did better in parts, I love this author and it's been fun to dive deeper into this story in a literary way. Sally's Kid's are older etc. So it's a little different. You truly feel like you are there with the characters. It has been a lovely escape into the world of magic in an East Coast town.

Beauty
I've been taking really really good care of myself for the first time in a long time. Learning to say no more and not beg for scraps of attention from unworthy people nor waste time with people who bring my energy down. I'm currently loving
-Epsom Salt Baths
-Wild natural deodorants with customized containers bonus that it takes out all the bad stuff
-Glamnetic Press on nails especially cat's eye or French Mani ones
-Flutter Habit semi permanant lashes (so pretty) and cheaper than the competition Make sure you buy glue it doesn't come with it. I use Lilac street's glue
-Fat lip oil that give your lips that popsicle stained look plus super glossy
Heat free curls from a bun or kitch stuff!
Little Indulgences
Tortellini soup. Been eating it all summer. Here's a recipe! YUM GIMME

The Sweet tea and lemonade candle from Bath and Body Works

Caftans. I'm juuuuust old enough to wear one unironically and I'm psyched. Something just screams old money mixed with IDGAF about these!
I've been drinking about a gazillion pitchers of Crystal light alternating between The Pink Lemonade and the Peach Tea flavors.

It's ok to slooooow down, Enjoy the little things. Fill a kiddie pool in your backyard and read a book! Eat a popsicle and tend to your flowers. Find a great playlist. Summers were made for slow, fun, and easy!
